UNDERSTANDING THE ART
3D areola restoration is a specialized form of restorative tattooing designed to recreate the appearance of a natural areola and nipple following mastectomy, breast reconstruction, or other breast surgery.
Using carefully selected pigments, detailed shading, highlights, and dimension, I create the illusion of realistic anatomy on flat or reconstructed tissue. Every tattoo is completely customized to your body. There is no one-size-fits-all shape, size, or color.
My goal is simple: to create a result that feels natural, balanced, and like it belongs to you.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Your appointment begins with a conversation, not a tattoo.
We’ll discuss your surgical history, healing, preferences, and what you would like your final result to look like. From there, we’ll work together to determine placement, size, shape, and color.
Before tattooing begins, your areola design will be carefully mapped and drawn directly onto the skin. Special attention is given to placement and symmetry.
You’ll have the opportunity to look at the design, make adjustments, and approve everything before we begin.
Once we’re both happy with the design, custom pigments are selected and tattooing begins. Multiple tones, shading, highlights, and fine details may be layered together to create realistic dimension.
DOES IT HURT?
Comfort varies from person to person and depends greatly on the type of surgery and reconstruction you’ve had.
Many post-mastectomy and reconstructed areas have reduced sensation, so clients are often surprised by how comfortable the tattooing process feels. If you do have sensation in the area, we’ll work with numbing agents to keep the appointment as comfortable as possible.
WHEN CAN I HAVE TATTOOING DONE?
Your breast reconstruction and surgical sites need to be completely healed before tattooing. All revisions need to be finalized. Tattooing is your very last step.
As a general guideline, areola tattooing is often performed approximately 6–12 months after surgery or reconstruction, but every healing journey is different.

I understand that this appointment may represent much more than adding pigment to the skin.
Your comfort and privacy matter. We’ll move at your pace, communicate throughout the process, and make decisions together.
You’ll have the opportunity to approve your shape, size, placement, and color before tattooing begins. You will never be rushed into a design you aren’t comfortable with.
This is your body, and you are part of the process from beginning to end.
HEALING + AFTERCARE
Immediately after your appointment, your tattoo may appear darker and more defined than the final result. As the skin heals, the color will soften and settle into a more natural appearance.
You’ll leave your appointment wearing a Tegaderm protective covering. Tegaderm should remain in place for approximately 5 days to help protect the area during the initial healing process.
If you have a known Tegaderm or adhesive allergy, that’s okay! An alternative aftercare regimen will be provided.
For at least 7 days following your appointment, avoid:
• Swimming, baths, hot tubs, or submerging the tattoo in water
• Excessive sweating
• Working out or strenuous exercise
A comfortable bra is recommended on the day of your appointment and can be worn normally when you leave.
Detailed aftercare instructions will be provided at your appointment so you know exactly how to care for your tattoo at home.
YOUR RESULTS + 6-WEEK TOUCH-UP
Areola restoration is a two-step process.
Your initial appointment establishes the shape, color, placement, and foundation of your 3D areola tattoo. Once your skin has fully healed, you’ll return approximately 6 weeks later for a complimentary touch-up.
At this appointment, I’ll evaluate how your skin retained the pigment and fine-tune the details that create the hyper-realistic effect—including dimension, highlights, shadows, color, and other finishing details.
Your 6-week touch-up is included at no additional cost.
After your initial session and 6-week touch-up are complete, your results are designed to last for years. A future color refresh or touch-up may be needed approximately 5–10 years after your last session depending on your skin, lifestyle, sun exposure, and how your pigment naturally ages.
